The challenge
For many communities in the North Dayi District, access to clean water and safe sanitation remained a daily struggle. Women and children often walked long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources, exposing households to waterborne diseases. The absence of proper toilet facilities further fueled open defecation, contaminating the environment and increasing health risks — especially for women and schoolchildren. These conditions affected not just health, but dignity, safety, education, and economic productivity.
The Intervention & What We Achieved
In August 2025, WCNDF launched a targeted clean water and sanitation initiative across three underserved communities in North Dayi District.
- In Wusata Kpebe, a new borehole was constructed, providing reliable access to clean drinking water for households that previously depended on streams and seasonal sources.
- In Awate-Tonu, WCNDF installed a fully mechanized borehole, ensuring year-round water supply, and constructed a 12-seater WC toilet facility, offering a safe and hygienic alternative to open defecation.
- In Tsoxor, another community borehole was established, reducing travel time for water collection and improving household sanitation practices.
Together, these interventions delivered immediate relief while establishing long-term health and hygiene infrastructure for entire communities.
