The challenge
Women in rural communities like Sovie often face significant barriers to accurate information and healthcare services related to sexual and reproductive health. Misconceptions, limited access to maternal health support, and inadequate breastfeeding education have led to preventable health issues among women and children. These challenges not only affect individual well-being but also perpetuate gender inequality and hinder community development.
The Intervention & What We Achieved
In response, WCNDF organized an intensive Sexual and Reproductive Health, Breastfeeding, and Maternal Health Workshop for women beneficiaries in Sovie.
The interactive sessions created a safe and open environment where participants learned about family planning, maternal care, safe delivery practices, breastfeeding techniques, and reproductive rights. Health professionals and facilitators led practical demonstrations, while WCNDF ensured the inclusion of young mothers and adolescents — equipping them with knowledge to make informed health choices and prevent early or high-risk pregnancies.
The training emphasized the importance of maternal nutrition, early antenatal care, and community support for mothers, building both confidence and competence among participants to advocate for their health and that of their families.
